logic pro X midi notes recording, sound when ke...

Hi anyone noticed this?

I have a soft synth and if i create a new track i can record midi notes, if i press the keyboard i can hear the midi notes. if i click on the event data in the event list i can hear the notes.

But i cannot hear them in playback?? they just will not sound during playback?

as i can hear them any other way ( i can even play the keys in playback and hear them live ) just not playing recorded midi data.

using omnispshere synth and it always just works.. ?

any help appreciated

Thanks

this is an existing project and all other tracks play back ok.

more info..

if i drag an apple loop into the track - the loop will play with omnisphere - so the loops midi events will playback just not the ones i recored... odd

so audio is working, midi is working, its just not playing what i record - anyone seeing this too?

Hi mate, you've not got any automation that is muting the sound when you hit play do you?  Or something along those lines...?

no this is new track - i found a post similar -

https://www.logicprohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=97353

this sounds exactly like my issue as when i add an apple loop to the same track the loop will trigger the soft synth

i think its a bug.. as its very strange

Same issue. Recorded MIDI tracks are not playing back...

Looks like a bug.

Temporary solution would be to create audio track from MIDI by routing it through a BUS to Audio track but not ideal case unless all notes are played correctly

have not tried that - should work in principle but if its not playing back -ie no level is showing in the VU meter

Then it wont sound in or order for the audio track to record it?

I will try when im home but i think we will hit same issue.. the audio track wont hear it to record it...

very annoying i wanted to work on things an now i cant till this is fixed...

Does this happen across the board? In other words, take the same track that's not playing the recorded MIDI and change the software instrument to one of Logic's synths.

Hi i cant remember if i tried that i think i did. but Apple loops work, and also i have a midi plug in drum machine that allows me to record.

At first i thought it was omnisphere but if the events are created and playback when you click them, and you can get playback in the piano editor if you click there. it was def not omnisphere. Using Global midi channel ALL.

like i said it should just work no problem. And it does up until the point you press play.

this is an existing project that i was working on in 9. but the other thread i posted the guy has tried a new project and same issue.

Try setting the MIDI channel directly to 1 or whichever channel the softsynth is set to receive on. Multitimbral softsynths can receive on separate MIDI channels, access the channel directly.

Open the track in the List editor and see which MIDI channel it's been recorded on, the channel you see in the inspector only references re-channelized playback.

Also, before anything else, when you have a track doing this try loading one of Logic's basic synths.

I'm not convinced this is an X bug as I remember it happening to some in L9 and before.

(could be wrong?)

Done that...

tried all other midi channels in playback to see if one would sound. but no.

And the fact you can heard the sound if an apple loop is dropped in, or you click on the events themselves..

says the midi channel is working... but yes i tried all of them to make sure and nothing.

Thanks for giving it a shot.

Out of curiosity, In the list editor.. what channel is the track recorded on?

Have you checked the output parameters of the track?  i.e. do you have master 1+2 set, and it still makes no sound?

Hi - cant check as not at home at the moment.

And yes the output is def main out. i would not hear the notes being manually played if not. also i mentioned earlier but i can hear the notes if i press the actual keyboard too... so the sound is getting through - just no midi notes being played in playback unless they are apple loop midi notes then the synth will trigger..

like i said ODD.

Ah ok mate, then... I would imagine the problem is the track is turned off then as that would produce that exact same issue.

Sure you know already, but incase you don't: Right click the track and 'Configure Track Header'  Tick the On/Off buttons to display and make sure the track is turned On?

Without that enabled you cannot play the track back, but the track still goes through all the outputs so midi note data and event data will register.

Also:- You could also try pressing Alt+M (Mute) as it seems to act differently than the normal Mute button on the track, not sure what it's doing but you may hit that accidently at some point?
