Mac Mail does not receive mail until I restart ...

Hello

I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 (14D136)  but I also noticed the same problem on other versions. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) 15", 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 with 512 SSD, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB.

Having Mac Mail Version 8.2 (2098) open. I receive email that comes in instantly on my iPhone 6 Plus but does not show up on my Mac Mail inbox. This issue is happening very frequently and even though I do see mail coming in sometimes, I don't know how long it has been since it was received on my iPhone. I have a very fast internet connection. Refreshing mail by pressing Get Mail on Mac Mail does not work.

I have to restart Mail to be able to receive the new emails. Restarting Mac Mail always gets me the new mail that I am waiting for.

Deleting the account and recreating it did not help.

Any ideas?

What kind of mail account is this—IMAP, POP, Exchange?

I have the same exact problem.

My Gmail and ME.com accounts are not affected but my Exchange is the issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

I also have the exact same problem. 

In response to the account type question, 99% of my e-mail comes via my iCloud account -- don't know whether that is IMAP or other.

Further thoughts/suggestions?

I, too, am having this problem.  I have two exchange and two IMAP accounts.  It happens to all of them.  Very frustrating not knowing when you have email or not.  I am running the latest version of Yosemite and Apple Mail.

Find a new mail application. Mac Mail is garbage and i have done every fix on earth and still l have reboot my mac then mail works for an hour but same thing happens, wont send mail until I reboot.

Piece of crap like most of the Apple stuff coming out of that company in the past 4 years. By the way stay away from AppleTV even the new one. I have one and they didn't fix anything that help you experience TV or movies. go with Amazon Fire stick.

I can not believe they let this out into the world.  Biggest pile of garbage ever.   Can't get mail from external server (iMap).  And barely gets mail from my iCloud account reliably.   I have to quit and restart to check my mail.  And once it finally delivers it, and I begin to read the messages, it constantly resets read messages to unread.  A few years ago this program work brilliantly.  Now it is completely worthless.  Why can't they figure this out?  Works just fine on my iPhone and iPad.   Fix this guys before I use the "M" word and install your competitions software.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Mail Feedback

I have the same problem and FIXED it!!!!!!  If you unselect "mail" in iCloud, everything works, and you don't have to restart the program. 

Will this help if my account is not icloud?  my account is imap.  I don't want my mail syncing/going into icloud.

What is a Mac alternative mail program to Mac Mail?  Eudora was great but it's long gone.
