How does high sierra APFS affect 3rd

Several questions about the APFS migration during the upgrade to high sierra:

Is the migration mandatory for 3rd-party SSDs?

Is the migration mandatory for SSDs attached via USB?

Are the time-machine disks converted as well (putting the backup at risk)?

Will the conversion make sure that the new file system is still case-preserving and case-sensitive?

Is it possible to activate a migration from case-insensitive to case-sensitive and case-preserving during the migration?

You need to wait until High Sierra is released.

File systems do not require 'types' of drive, I doubt that APFS is any different

To be clear.  High Sierra and APFS are currently beta software.  The forum Terms of Service do not allow Apple beta software to be discussed.  Until High Sierra is released, it cannot be discussed in these forums.
