Why does export as one audio sounds bad

So I selected 9 tracks and exported them as one audio file, then dropped them into a new project,  but why is the exported sound so poor? Distorted and mushy and in the red?

Somebody hand me a stick, I wish to give kerochan a few good whacks!  

I know I know!

I dont have overload proctection on, and before I export none of the tracks are in the red
