Spotlight is not indexing my removable drive

I don't know why, but when I do a spotlight search for a filename, it does not find files I know exist on my removable hard drive.  It does find files on my main hard drive.

I have tried to rebuild the spotlight index and add the volume to the privacy pane and then remove it.  Neither of these work.  I have waited for days for the indexing to complete.

I don't think this is normal... any suggestions?

With the external drive attached, have you checked Spotlight's Privacy tab to make sure it isn't excluded?
