Has my Mac been hacked?

My issue:

When using Chrome extra tabs are opened up containing adverts.

I'm a x-unix admin so had a look around at processes and was drawn to the "launchd" which had three files which had been edited at around the time the issue started.

com.apple.RFBEventHelper.plist

com.apple.RemoteDesktop.PrivilegeProxy.plist

com.apple.screensharing.plist

This maybe unrelated - I admit I know very little these days.

What is my best course of action to get rid of the bug opening unwanted tabs on Chrome? Download an anti-virus?

I choose MAC as virus's didn't used to exist on a UNIX operation system - how things move on...
