Migration

Upgraded to Seira and completed my back up to the Time Machine when the machine was running Seira.  Erased the disk and had Yosemite loaded.  When trying to restore my data had the following error message.

"the source contains a newer release of OS X. Your mac required an upgrade before you can migrate from this source"

I have kept up to date with all the upgrades so the backups using Yosemite was done some time ago and did not keep a record of when I did the upgrades.

Is there a way to recover my data from the Time Machine while running Yosemite?
