When I plug in my (external) flash drive my iMa...

When I plug in my external 128GB flash drive my iMac says "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer."  Just the other day the flash drive was working just fine and I've had it for only about six months! Now all of a sudden I cannot access my data on this flash drive! Please help! Thank you.

It's entirely possible the flash drive has failed or become corrupt. That is not uncommon at all. Does it work in another machine?

Hopefully, that wasn't the only place you had that data stored...

Probably corrupted disk.

Download DriveDx from    binaryfruit.com

then install it,

connect the Flash drive and run DriveDx. It is user friendly and explains what you see (hover the mouse pointer over an item).

If the disk is no good, impossible to save.

If the disk is still good, the "registers" are corrupted.

It happened to me recently on a 100% healthy disk.

That is very difficult to "repair", you will probably loose data:

download TestDisk 7.1 by Christophe Grenier

Read Teskdisk 7.1 Documentation.

https://www.cgsecurity.org/

Its a time consuming job.

I repaired the disk but lost data.

I do not have another machine to test. I fear the data is lost. I do have some of the data stored elsewhere but not all of it. Oh well. Seeking other solutions.  Thank you for getting back!
