Cannot hear monitoring or recorded sound. Logic...

When I setup an audio or MIDI track through my interface, the sound registers through both the interface and Logic. I am unable to hear monitoring. I am able to record the sound/waveform, but playback yields no sound. I have tried different mics, different cords, resetting the driver, restarting computer, etc. The interface still works with other computers. I am able to open Logic files from different computers and play them in the program. This is a new refurbished iMac. Just installed logic a few days ago.

Strange...  two suggestions.

1. Preferences are global they affect all projects regardless of what system the Logic files were created on.

    Project Settings are specific to each project, it's possible but unlikely it is a project setting like sample rate is causing the problem but if you can play Logic prejects not created on your system.. it is a possibility.

2. Delete Logic's Preferences. (you will need to reset the Input/Output devices and a few other settings.

I don't think you need to delete the control surfaces file.

(Since it's not working in Garage Band the most likely culprit is the interface, have you re-installed the latest drivers?)

Delete the Logic 10 preferences...

In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.

Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. Note -> use the ~  as....    ~/Library/Preferences

Press the Go button.

Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist  file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro. then delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.

In Logic's Preferences/Audio, what do you have setup as the Input/Output device, and what are you monitoring through?

And what is the interface make?

I have "Saffire" selected as the device. I monitor through headphones and monitors when listening back. Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.

So, to recap..  you have Saffire set as Both the Input And Output device in Logic's preferences and the headphones/speakers plugged into the Saffire.

Low Latency mode is not being used.

Logic's Main Output is set to use 1-2

You channel strip is set to use 1-2 as output.

Software monitoring is enabled

Yes to all of those. Although I often use the external output with system settings because the headphones jacks on the Saffire are messed up and don't give me stereo. Regardless, it won't play whether it's through the Saffire or the system external output. Software monitoring- what exactly is that? The button that is pressed on the specific track to activate monitoring? If so, yes.

The second thing you suggested worked I think. Things look a little different now though. More like GarageBand. It looks like I have less options. Maybe this is what you were talking about with the key commands or control surface? I'm sorry, I just don't really know what all these things mean. Thank you for all your help up to this point!

Is it working, do you get sound now?

To get back to the Logic look with all the options... Go to Logic's Preferences  "Advanced Tools" and enable Everything!

Yes! I get sound and monitoring now! And it records! Thank you so much! Lifesaver. I don't really know what happened technically here, but I'm not at some sort of disadvantage now am I?

Disadvantage... No, not really. Running Logic in Garageband mode happened when you deleted the preferences and they were rebuilt to default. If you wanted to go into full Logic mode just go into Logic's preferences to Advanced tools and enable everything. If you're comfortable with it no, no need to change.
