iTunes Music Match cancelled ... now what?

I no longer require the functions of Music Match and have therefore cancelled my account. However, I would like all of the tracks to be moved over to my iCloud so they can continue to be accessed from our numerous devices.

• Do I need to do this myself or are they already in there ... somewhere?

or

• Do I simply create a new directory in the iCloud and copy them all into the new directory?

"...so they can continue to be accessed from our numerous devices" is one of the key functions of iTunes Match. You can certainly upload music files to your iCloud Drive if you want — up to the limit of your available storage, which starts at only 5GB unless you pay to upgrade it. But having the music in the cloud doesn't automatically mean it's available to play in the iTunes or Music apps on your various devices. You'll need to manage this the old-fashioned way:

• For iOS devices, you can sync with iTunes on the computer where your music library is stored.
• For other computers, you can download the music files from iCloud Drive — or transfer them by other means — and import them into iTunes on that other device.

Apple has three cloud music services.

• iTunes in the Cloud allows you access to your qualifying unhidden past purchases for streaming or downloading to compatible computers or devices. This is a free feature of an iTunes account in the regions where it is supported. Note that if a rights holder removes an item from the store your ability to stream or download expires.
  
• iTunes Match is an annual subscription service that allows you to add music ripped or purchased from other sources to your cloud content where it becomes available in a similar fashion to the above. When the subscription ends anything that you haven't downloaded to one of your computers or devices will be lost to you. Matching isn't always perfect. You would do well to keep an offline copy of all original content.
• Apple Music is a monthly subscription service that gives access to most of the iTunes catalogue while the subscription remains active. In other ways it is similar to iTunes Match so can include content you had when your subscription began or that you later add by ripping CDs, etc. When the subscription ends anything obtained via Apple Music will cease to work. Care must be taken to ensure that your own non-subscription content isn't confused with Apple Music, or you may lose access to content that you previously owned. Again an offline copy of your own content is advised.

If you have multiple devices running on different Apple IDs there are Family Sharing options for the basic iTunes service and for Apple Music.

iTunes and the Music app on iOS devices cannot play content stored directly in iCloud folders.

Which service have you actually had and cancelled? Are the original copies of your own content secure and stored locally on at least one computer or device, preferably backed up as well? If you have cancelled an automatic renewal in advance of the renewal date it might not be too late to download all of the associated cloud content, through there is obviously no point downloading Apple Music items should that apply. I currently use Apple iCloud (which I've increased the size of) and Music Match which is due to expire mid Sept.

Both me and my wife use the same Apple account for all our devices and use iTunes to store our music to be be played on a Mac, iPhones, Apple TV and iPads.

I was hoping that by moving the iTunes library to the iCloud we would be able to continue to play our music as 'normal'.

If not I guess it might be the time to export our music while I can and move it to an alternative  service .
