Missing audio on movies

I have encountered an odd problem within iTunes - I have no audio when I play movies.

My setup is a 2016 MBP, a LG 5k display and a USB-C to mini-jack adaptor (HiFiMe Sabre 9018) with a set of studio monitor speakers plugged in. When I open the same movies in VLC(... or other) there is no problem with the audio, nor is there with music in iTunes. It also doesn't help to change to audio-output channel in the top menu-bar (I've tried both the build in speakers in the laptop and the LG display).

The only way I get audio is when I unplug the display an run it solely on the MBP.

Is there any one in here that might have a solution to this - or just a good idea what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance, regards Marius

In VLC Player, open the video file. Then right-click on the video, go to Audio > Audio Device and change it from 5.1 to ‘Stereo’ (Mono and 2 Front 2 Rear should also work). Now you’ll be able to listen the vocals too, presuming background music could be heard before. To switch between audio device quickly, use the keyboard hotkey Shift + A in VLC. Only downside of this way is that you need to make the change next time again in VLC.

I HAVE TRIED IT AND IT WORKED FOR ME.......YOU CAN ALSO GIVE IT A TRY...!!

Hi Edwards142. Thanks for your quick response :-) However, my problem isn't with VLC but with iTunes - where I can't find a way to change the audio from 5.1 to stereo. Might there be an OS X system setting for this?
