Have I been scammed? XpertCrew required $219.98 to recover computer after malware lock. An e-mail from Apple provided an Apple service number and referred me to 3rd party XpertCrew. Indian accent with each of the tree persons I spoke with. Gave serial number of computer. Took 45 minutes on phone. 888 number.
Apple does not use subcontractors for anything like that in the US. So yes, I believe you have been scammed.
If you decide you did not have an honest transaction where you received valuable honest goods for your payment, your Credit Card company is your friend -- dispute the charges right away. Notify Law Enforcement. I think interstate or international means the FBI.
Also, notify the ISP of the sender of that email. It may have Apple in its name somewhere, but chances are it did not actually come from Apple. You may need to display full headers in the message, and cut and paste the contents, showing the full headers, into another email. (just forwarding it shows only your source info, not the original sender).
If you wish help in decoding the email headers, post them to a reply on the forums and readers can help you track where the email originated.
I got a call from a number claiming that he is from XpertCrew. he told me that there is some problem with my computer and my antivirus has expired. He asked me to buy a virus removal software and charged me $312.18 even after the installation of antivirus, I again got problem in my PC again and contacted the same number I got the call from. The number was not reachable, then I searched for the XpertCrew number on the internet and contacted them. I got to know that the number i got a call from was not from XpertCrew, but a Scam.
If a company calls you out of the blue to say you have a problem with your computer, they have a problem with your moral code, and you should not be doing anything they tell you to.
Apple calls you and tells you something is wrong with your computer? It's a scam
Microsoft calls you and tells you something is wrong with your computer? It's a scam
Geeksquad calls you and tells you something is wrong with your computer? It's a scam
Antivirus company calls you and tells you something is wrong with your computer? It's a scam
If any of these things happens, except with email instead of a phone call? it's a scam
Snailmail instead of a phone call? it's a scam
The help NEVER EVER calls you out of the blue to say your device has a problem. This is true regardless of what kind of device you're using
If you are approached by Apple you will always be addressed by your proper name or the name Apple
know you by. Anything else will be false.

Some of the scammers manage to do that as well.
I get calls every week telling me there is a problem with my Windows Installation. They are getting error messages at Windows support.
These calls are always from people with a thick Indian accent.
I have not run Windows since I tried Windows 3.11 ONCE on an emulator.
The scam is so obvious I almost feel bad for them, but not quite. They know they are defrauding those "rich Americans" and they call anyway.
Do you know how, Idris? Especially if it is linked to a message from an email address that ends '@apple.com.' Not that I mentioned that.

If you care too, you can have a quite a bit of fun with them. I've gotten good at completely flustering them, causing them to apologize and hang up.

Sorry, I meant the phone callers, not email.
Yes; that makes me so mad too. I get telephone calls at least twice a week from these Indian sounding guys and they tell me all about the Windows computer I've never had. I feel so sorry for those with lesser knowledge of these things.
