iPad Air 2 Activation Lock Removal?
I bought an iPad Air 2 last week at the pawn shop for $50. It had a passcode on it so I plugged it into my iMac, did the whole recovery thing and when I tried to register it under my email it said it was under the previous owners email. I took it back to the pawn shop and they said they could not refund me and all sales were final. I contacted Apple via telephone and they were no help. It's a little unfair for someone who paid for an Apple product to be told there's nothing anyone can do when there is proof of purchase and ID.
I needed the iPad for my graphic design work whenever I meet with clients. Now I'm sitting here with a nice paperweight and Apple refuses to help. Why would you refuse to help unlock it? I bought it. I paid for it. I have proof of purchase. It's YOUR product yet you refuse to help someone who is a good customer and has had several Apple products and will have more in the future. I didn't steal it, I didn't take it from anyone yet here I am trying to find a hacker who will do it for me because Apple refuses to help. Mind you there ARE ways to unlock it by paying someone for it BUT, I would rather do it legally from the company that makes it rather than pay some stranger to do something illegal. Samsung doesn't have these kind of issues.
Even though you got it legally, the person who gave it to the pawn shop might have turned in a lost or stolen device; in general, iOS devices being sold for an unusually cheap price are likely activation locked or otherwise useless to the seller.

Hi Niel,
I've been dealing with pawn shops for over ten years here in FL and you can't turn a lost or stolen device in to them. Any device that is stolen is immediately flagged and reported to the police who then send someone to the pawn shop within minutes. I know because a friend of mine stole someones laptop, tried to take it to the pawn shop and was arrested within 15 minutes.
I know Apple can unlock it. What I don't understand is why they refuse to do it. I'd rather deal with them and not the guy 20 minutes away who can unlock anything for $40 bucks.
Stolen or loat. It does not matter.
The previous owner did not prepare it for resale properly. Any pawn shop should know this and advise.
If you are not the original owner with a proof of purchase, the password for the Apple ID shown is required.
That Android does not do this is moot.
"I'd rather deal with them and not the guy 20 minutes away who can unlock anything for $40 bucks."
Personally I look at using that guy's services as a great way to put yourself $40 deeper into the hole. I serious doubt he will be able to remove the Activation Lock for you.
Actually he can. He's done several devices for a friend of mine and I was there when he did his iPhone 7 so I know he can do it. I just prefer to save the $40 and have it done free.
Thanks for offering zero help or advice.
This is an old thread but another simple answer to anyone still searching the net for a fix... THERE IS NO WAY TO BYPASS ACTIVATION LOCK! Not your local hacker, not a patch on a website, not a jailbreak module, and even Apple themselves, as much as you'd like to think they can, THEY CANT. You can thank the FBI for Apple increasing security to levels beyond even their control. This level of protection is for your benefit, trust me. Any pawn shop or basically any outlet that SELLS an Apple product that is activation locked is illegally re-selling the Apple product and can be prosecuted by both the purchaser of the fraudulent product AND by Apple for misrepresentation and fraud, and if they happen to be a licensed apple seller or service depot, they're really screwed. Don't get scammed by a site that claims they can get past activation locked devices after an iPhone 4... They can't. If you get your hands on the "Ultimate iPhone toolkit" you can bust open devices upto iOS 10.2.1 but good luck finding the software pack, I've had bots scouring the net for years and they've not been able to get it. Since iOS 10.3.1 was written to close ALL holes, throw it in a dumpster, you'll never break it, it was written to stop ultimate iPhone toolkit from gaining access, the ultimate iPhone toolkit is what the FBI used to get into locked devices and was written by a Chinese hacking firm specifically for the FBI. There it is, your complete one-stop answer to a very common question.
It really isn't fair when you purchase an Apple Product in good faith and Apple Support can verify it was not stolen and after telling them the name of the person you purchased it from they told me she was the owner. Guess I have a nice door stop since I can't get her to release it from her Apple ID. Guess it is time to look for something else other than APPLE. Thanks for nothing Apple
