Steps before restoring from time machine

Hi,

I've been having a number of issues with my 1 Tb 2011 iMac recently, but the main one is taking 55 mins to boot up, so I've now bought a 2017 iMac and just waiting for it to be delivered. My current OS is MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 and have Time Machine currently backing from a 1.5Tb external Hard Drive

When my new one arrives, am I right in saying that what I'll need to do for complete restoring to the new iMac of all my apps and folders is:

!. Check that there are no new updates for the OS on the old iMac.

2. Do one last backup to Time Machine on the old iMac.

3. on the new iMac, boot to desktop and create all my necessary settings.

4. Restart new iMac.

5. On new iMac, insert the external hdd and wait to see if registered in Finder.

6. Finder > Applications > Utilities > Migration Assistant

7. Follow the on screen instructions, then wait for it to complete.

8. Once finished, check that everything has been transferred successfully.

9. Breathe...

If I've missed something or have it wrong then please let me know !!!

Before starting that, I suggest you try to follow the suggestion below.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
